President's Message
I would like to start by wishing all of you a Happy New Year. I believe that is at least politically correct. It is funny sometimes how politics get involved in our daily lives. Oftentimes it goes unnoticed. Then, other times, it gets noticed because it becomes vitally important to one of us.
It is never enough to rely on our stature as firefighters alone. One of the many things we overlook or take for granted is our community involvement. We, as a board, never ask you to do anything we do not believe in. It is good to be active in all of the communities we are sworn to protect. That value may not necessarily be seen that day or the next. For that matter, it may not even be seen in the next month or year.
It is, however, important to keep getting out there. It may be 2, 3, 5 or 10 years down the line when we need to call on that favor. It would be similar to investing in stocks to make your retirement better. You are giving something now to make things better later.
The part that is frustrating to us is that people are unwilling to help in areas they do not live in or protect. This is a poor attitude! Do you invest in global stocks in your mutual funds? Yet you have never been there nor do you understand how business is done there. You trust your advisors to do the right thing. That is what they do. Trust us to lead you! Get involved in the activities we deem important or necessary. The return on investment could be far greater than any of us imagined!
Many claim they didn't know or never heard about it. Ignorance is no excuse. I know it has never gotten me out of any traffic violations. We are working on a new calendar feature that will outline local 1301 activities. Get signed on and look for it or call Judi at 871-1301. Then get out and volunteer to get active in OUR communities. Invest in your future today!
